I have a 2007 unlimited 4-door 6 speed manual. About the 2,000 mile mark, the throw out bearing had to be replaced. Now it has 5,400 miles on it and I just had to get to towed to the Jeep dealer because it wouldn't start. Jeep stated the integrated control module was bad and had to be replaced. Apparently this isn't the first 4 door Wrangler they had to replace a integrated control module on. I love the new Wrangler but when will it stop giving me problems?

Two weeks ago I bought an 07 Wrangler Unlimited 6 speed manual. The first night I listened to it idle while in the garage and I noticed a high pitched squeal. The squeal wasn't very loud, but concerning. I took it in to dealership the next day and they thought it was the alternator so they replaced it. Great, so my wife went to pick up the vehicle with the problem "solved." However, I knew immediately when she got home with it the dealership solved nothing. Same squeal. Nice job, guys. Finally, after some experiments I found that the noise was only present when the clutch was out. After giving the dealership this extra piece of info they finally figured out that it was the clutch throw out bearing causing the noise and that there was a "technical bulletin" that described the symptom and solution. After Dave's comment it sounds like a recall maybe in the making.

I'm having some concerning problems with my 4 door wrangler. My jeep completely died at a red light when I had had it for 1 month. I thought that it was a fluke. But then my ignition is also getting stuck where when I turn the key it sticks and keeps trying to start. The final straw is when I was driving along the intestate this week and the engine got really loud and then all of my lights flew on. I immediately pulled over b/c I thought that it had died. Turns out that it didn't but I think that it was shear luck. I think that it started to die but the engine ended up catching again. I just picked it up today from the dealer and they didn't do ANYTHING to it since the "couldn't reproduce" the problem. I had to throw a fit to even get a rental car. UGH - talk about horrible customer service from the dealership. I was so frustrated that I called and complained to Jeep. Have you had any luck with getting yours fixed yet? I'm hoping that maybe you might be able to offer some guidance. My dealership didn't even bother to research the problems thru Jeep. I now am scheduled with a different dealership.
After 15 years of owning Jeep products I will no longer own a Jeep or other Chrysler product. The lastest customer service issue has left a very sour results. From the beginning, my 1999 Jeep GrandCherokee has had engine stalling issues. After repeated repairs and replacement of 6 (yes 6) oxygen sensors and other items they have finally decided it is the cylinder block that must be replaced. Even though this issue has been documented within the same dealer from the beginning, Customer Service has said that they will not allow any discount nor will the provide any reimbursement. Therefore, this is the last Jeep I, my family or any one I can speak with and influence will ever purchase or own a Jeep product.

Here's an update: The 2nd dealership doesn't want the information that some of you have given me regarding my Jeep. The 1st dealership has essentially stated that Jeep is afraid of the Lemon Law. However, they are going to contact the dealership that has actually fixed the throttle problem (thx George!). In the meantime, since it isn't a searchable problem, I just filed a complaint with the Office of Defects Investigation (www.nhtsa.dot.gov). I hope that this will force Jeep to fix the throttle problem - engine keeps stalling. Thanks for all of your help - hopefully my dealership will now fix my problem!
I have had my 4Dr X 6spd for about 4 months and have around 4000 miles on it. It is making a high pitch nosie when you are around 2000rpms in any gear. Once it goes above the 2000 the noise stops. It s really disturbing when you are driving down the road and all you here is this noise. Anyone els have this problem. Jeep Dealer I got it off of is puzzled right now. Can't even drive around in it and enjoy having the top off!!!!
I have had my 4 door Unlimited X for about 4 months. I have a knocking noise in the front that seems to happen when I turn to the left or just driving down the street. Anyone esle with same issue. Also, the RPM's seem to come up real high when trying to accelerate on to interstate. I brought to dealership, but they didn't know what to do with it. They sent me home and told me to let them know what happens.
I have a 2007 Jeep sahara unlimited...the high pitch noise has developed (2000km). Seems to come & go...most prevelant around 30 mph...I find at real slow speed the noise goes away. I am assuming that it is a problem with the throw out bearing as well. I'll give a couple of weeks to let the problem become more identifiable by the dealership before wasting my time while they try trouble shooting. Thansk for the note about a service bulletin.
PLEASE CONTACT NSHTA- My 2 dr Wrangler X has stalled at hwy speed 3 times- shudders-all power goes out and then everything comes back up again-I have had this happen at 8500 mi-12400 mi and again at 26800 mi- I have filed a complaint with the agency and a probe is being launched- this is a big safety issue so please send your complaints to them so this can become a recall-it may save lives....
The dealer obviously couldn't find a problem except a 15 ms stall indicated on the cam shaft sensor-
Also had weird issue when shifting-sometimes I get a grind when shifting-not sure why-noticed a squeak noise when engaging clutch
I just purchased my 4 door jeep wrangler sahara. Mine is automatic but it still makes this whistling sound after i drive it for more than 10 minutes. The sound seems to be coming from the front of the vehicle. It gets louder when i am slowing down around 15 mph, though it is not from the brakes. I have taken it to the dealership twice already and they have no idea? does anyone know what could be wrong. I have been researching a lot about this problem and it seems that many people are in the same situation. Will they ever know how to fix it, i am getting very frusterated, i dont even enjoy taking the top down cuz i'll hear that dreadful squeal.

Been having the same problem...mines a 6 speed standard....had no luck taking it to the dealer...I have been driving around with my head out the window trying to determine where it is coming from. It almost sounds like the drivers side wheel bearing. I'm thinking that after driving for a distance the bearing gets hot enough that it causes the whistling noise. I have noticed that if I drive slow for a distance (around 10 mph ...allows it to cool down some) the noise vanishes for a while until I speed up again to heat it up. I notice that the pitch of the whistle does change just before the vehicle stops & then noise vanishes. This is all I can come up with for now...if you come up with any other ideas or findings let me know...the noise is driving me crazy.
The Dealership contacted me with many apologies for my bad experiences-I think they though I was making this stuff up. There is an offical recall campaign from DC for the issue of the Jeep stalling as of Jul 3.
As for the problems people are having, it is really to be expected on a first production run of new vehicles. I have been very happy otherwise with road and play with my new Jeep. If there is an issue it is also wise to ensure that the complaint and issue be forwarded to the proper agency so a recall can be done if enough people are having the same problem. It seems to have worked this time.

I purchased my jeep about 3 weeks ago and just turned over 1000 miles on it yesterday. I noticed this morning that a squealing noise was coming from the left front of the vehicle at low speeds. Its stops completely when the vehicle stops. Sounds kind of like a belt squeek but isn't because it only presents itself when jeep is moving. Is this similar to what you guys are experiencing? Could it be a pebble stuck in between the pad and disc? Should I take it back to dealership? Help?
I have a 2007 4dr. Sahara. It has a dent behind the right side front bottom hinge. The dent was caused by the hinge being in a bind, this is per the dealer and a certified Chrysler body shop. It has been at the dealership and body shop for almost 7wks. Has anyone else had this kind of door problem?
I have an 03 rubicon 5" longarm teraflex and 35" tires. When I accelarate at about 30mph I start to feel a vibration and at low speed under 20mph I hear a squeeling sound but not all the time. I balanced all the tires again and checked for any type of debri causing this but nothing and of course when I took it to the shop the mechanic could'nt find anything wrong "what a suprise" I don't know what else to do can you help me, thanks
Has anyone else seen the stress fractures on the front fenders of the 2007 Unlimited? I have a new 4 dr. sahara with the body colored fenders, the fender on the driver side is not the same color as the body or the other 3 fenders and there are 2 stress fractures on the front end of the fender near the headlight. They are symetrical on both sides!! I went to 3 dealerships tonight to see if I was crazy, and low and behold, it was on every one I looked at!!! As the car ages and the fenders bend with time, this is going to cause the paint to crack and peel. Also, check your hood hinges (near the windshield) mine are already chipping the paint off since there is no room between the hinges to move the hood! How am I supposed to get to my engine if I cannot open my hood without chipping off the paint? Maybe since I'm a woman, that is information I am not eligible for!!! Anyone else had any of these issues???
I too bought an 07 Wrangler 2 door, and experienced a squealing noise, but once the clutch was depressed the noise went away. I had to go back to the dealership 4 times before they fixed it. It was a throwout bearing& input shaft that need to be replaced. Now with 3000 kms on it I hear what sounds like a brake pad rubbing after the vehicle gets warm and only goes away once completely stoped. I am hesitatant to take it back as the dealership trashed my interior when fixing the first problem and it has taken me 3 weeks to get it repaired. 14 out of 50 days in the shop.
I have a 2005 wrangler TJ and after taking it on a 400 mile round trip journey,the "squeal"/whistle type noise started this afternoon.
I've had this since July 2006,and have 6500 miles on it.

WOW, you know I too had the clutch replaced on my 4x4 sahara Unlimited because of the squeak noise everytime the clutch was released .......well after the repair I to had grease all over my YES Essentals seat and they scratch up the cheap plastic dash.
but worst of all the same thing the break pads sound like metal on metal, plus the cuased a exagust leak, and broke the emergancy break plus they broke the shifter knob while taking apart the e-break essembly.
well the noise stopped Monday morning(Sept 3rd) all by itself.haven't heard a peep since,either.
should I be worried?

Test drove a 4 door wrangler today and really like the look of the car.
I currently drive a 2003 Sahara and would love to upgrade to the new 4 door. Problem is that this site and others scares the hell out of me and I'm concerned that I am making a really bad decision. This car seems to be a dud and still needs some major trouble shooting. Honestly, can anyone here tell me that they would suggest I get the 4 door wrangler all problems considered? Are these issues really that bad?
Run, don't walk away from the 4-dud wrangler. I had it for two months and it spent 27 days in the shop. Traded it for a Toyota that has been perfect.

Has anyone else had a problem with a very annoying knocking sound coming from in between the front and rear door (driver side, where the seatbelt is). Everytime I hit even the smallest bump in the road it starts, even worse going over railroad tracks or speed bumps. The dealer ship says they figured out what the problem was but they can't fix it because Jeep hasn't made the part to fix it. The bad thing is they won't tell me what is causing it. Hopefully someone else has had this problem and got it fixed.
anyone else had any problems with the hard top shells leaking on their Jeeps? I have had mine back to the dealer ( 2007 Sahara ) 6 times now and it still leaks after raining. the dealership has been courteous and Jeep has sent an "engineer" down this week to see if he can "fix" it. Just wondered if this had happened to anyone else.
I had the "reprogram" done at 33200 3 months ago- at 44500---no stalls. I was one who complained to the gov. i had 5 stalls between 8500 and 33200. I hink its fixed. Before recall, stealership had said there was a 5oo ms dropout of the camshaft sensor....
I just returned from a trip to Las Vegas. I have a 4 dr Sahara Jeep Unlimited. When driving at hiway speeds in the high winds, my hood was lifting which was very distrubing. It lifted to the height of the hood catch. I had to lower my speeds to 50mph. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue and if they know about a better replacement hood latch. The rubber mount is not getting the job done!
We were recently driving down I-26 in NC on cruise control when our 2007 4-door unlimited "burped" than quit running. After pulling off Hwy and lifted hood the engine was on fire. Further investigation at the dealer showed a whole in the side of the block the size of a coke can. Anyone else with similar experience.
Has anyone heard of the Death Shake? My Jeep currently has 24k and whenever it hits a bump greater than 35mph it shakes horribily. It shakes to the point of when I stop. One dealer said it's a jeep thing. Thanks buddy this is my four jeep....I think I know the jeep thing. And the 2nd dealership has no idea but they are trying to figured it out. Any ideas?
have the tires rotated and balanced, if problem still exists ---->
have the alignment corrected, if problem still exists----->
check ball joints, track bar and tie rod ends for wear. Lastly the steering stabilizer can be checked, but this should always be last.
If none of those are the cause I would consider trading it in for something else.

Man, I am really concerned about all this negative feed about the 07' problems, my 08' 4 door is at 3,000 K,. so far so good, but maybe 08' has learned from 07' mistakes, the first time around is a learning curb for the engineers, though they should honor their product and fix the substandard design flaws,until then drive it into the ground, don't take no for an answer & demand it be fixed even if you have to camp out, picket line call the news station, make noise man.
I have an 07 Rubicon unlimited and it has given me fits with so many problems... 2 recalls, 1 replaced throttle control box, stall bug has hit me, I still get the darn lighs on the dashboard; but I've learned to be patient and sometimes ignore those lights as they do not make a difference when driving or offroading. I know of another 3 or 4 friends with the same jeep and they have not had a problem at all.
With the new 08's looks like they have been looked at better and problems are sporadic. There have been but not many. That is what happens when a new model comes out.... following years should be better.
I returned from a trip to Utah. I have a 4 dr Rubicon Jeep Unlimited. When driving at highway speeds in the high winds, my hood was shaking and partial lifting motion at front edge of hood which was very disturbing and scared, I stopped 2 times on Freeway and reduced speed. Do I have to ask to dealer change better hood latch or the rubber mount is not getting the job done ?!
Anyone have trouble with the windshield? I only have 7,000 miles on it and have had to replace two windshields. They have cracked in identifical spots on the drivers side.
Bought a 2008 4DR even after reading this. Love the new warranty! No problems after 4k. Four road trips none less than 20 MPG. Hard top is fun and useful. Family of 5 and we love it. 6 spd manual no tow package (I have truck for towing). Really helps with highway mileage. With hard top it is a really practical SUV, comparable interior volume to other SUVs. In nice S FL weather we pop the top off and make Hummer/FJ/other drivers jealous as they look at us all closed in with their hard tops! Fun vehicle just as promised.
Anybody that is experienceing a front end squealing noise with their wrangler (mine is a 07 4 dr RUBICON), it is the front pinion seal. Chrysler has a new replacement part in the works available nov 07. At least thats what the dealer told me.

around 40 , the motor lugs. I think this is due
to the transmision not changing to a lower
gear quick enough. I can give it gas and it goes
to the lower gear and its ok. The first time this
happened I thought I was driving on railroad

I too have experienced several problems with my 4 door. The front floorboards leak when it rains,(soft top) the engine kind of knocks when I first start it, and overall the engine peformance is weak--very sluggish acceleration(so much that it stalls frequently on take off, and I am hardly a rookie at clutches) , poor over all performance and nowhere near the gas mileage rated on the sticker. IMHO, the 3.8 is a major glitch in that it is much too under powered for the vehicle.Also, the auto brake system is extremely annoying. It breaks at speeds nowhere near approaching any dangerous conditions, and won't disengage when I press the off button. I love the overall appearance, the space and the fold down seats in the rear, and the stereo is superior to any other Jeep I have previously owned(5 different Jeeps)
I've been experiencing the same problem. My mechanic is a good guy, Johnny Kelly, Kelly Automotive, Crestview, Florida. I didnt even try the dealership. I am glad I didnt buy the warranty, because they seem to be pretty slick at doing everything EXCEPT fixing problems when I take it in (so far, only the subwoofer is out -- and it still hasnt been fixed right)
ANYWAY, the shake of death...
I put a 2.5" Old Man Emu suspension lift and a 1" Daystar body lift (both great products), and I figured I was getting the shake of death because of that. My mechanic said he didnt know what it was, but that he had heard of it happening to lots of guys with lifts. Is this plausible? I have recently exchanged the 33x12.5R15's for the stock 28's on stock rims (I used to get looks from people admiring the looks of my jeep, now they double take and keep looking straight, as if they had just seen a retarded bastard monkey baby)... just wanted to affirm the shake of death. hit me up on myspace. I have a 2003 Jeep® Wrangler Sport. I think that some people are not cut out to drive a Jeep®. LOL… Some of the comments made about noises and shaking are what makes a Jeep® a Jeep®. A Jeep® does not hide its operation on the manual transmissions like Honda and other "economy" cars do. Hearing noises from the transmission is common. A leaky top is not though lol. Before my wrangler I had a 03 BMW® convertible this was a nice quite ride. Because of this I think that some people think jeeps should be running smooth and quietly like there last car did. Maybe they had a Grand Cherokee which in comparison is far from a Wrangler. The Jeep® is not made for high speeds. I love my jeep because it allows me to drive. My BMW® had abs this was nice but sometimes it made me feel like I was stopping slower. Just recently I had a syncro go out and Jeep® put a brand new transmission in it this was not a bad experience although I had to take it in they had it done all in the same day. The inline 4.0 which powers my Wrangler, with power to spare gives me a good laugh sometimes when I beat cars off the line and stopping on a dime is also fun. When I heard that Jeep® put a 3.8 in the new jeeps I was hoping this would only end up being a short term substitute and that they would soon go back to the old engine but now I am stating to think it will not happen and this new engine does not produce the torque Jeep® fans are used to having.
A four door Wrangler has given me a sense, that I would enjoy leaving my front seats stationary while people pile in the back. I enjoyed reading the comments in this forum, but I also feel that people should be less forgiving. When discussing problems like their hood rising in the wind. Jeep would not fasten a hood that is going to rip up into the windshield at anytime. Wranglers are the cars kids see and want at a young age I know I did when I saw an eagle on the hood of one. After owning one I will say that driving one long distance can be different, but note that it takes the right person to drive a Jeep® as a daily driver. Do not take that this the wrong way, but I believe some people should not drive this vehicle. If a person is seeking a smooth quite ride trade your ride in for something that will work for you. Do not force yourself to ride in a vehicle which was originally developed far war uses such as being able to tackle the tightest trails and turns.

I have mine in the shop again a going 55 mph on nc 64 east and after about an hour twice in 50 miles had to come ta a complete stop to make it stop. called a tow truck sent it to the dealer and once again they say we can find nothing. any help out there thanks
My 1998 Wrangler TJ 2.5L 4 Cyl makes a loud whistle. Comming from the area of the throttle body. Starts when driving at 40 MPH and above. Gets louder when you let off the gas, goes away when you stop for 3 minutes or so. What is this? How can I stop it? Thanks.

I had something similar to this in my 89 Wrangler. I first noticed it when driving down the highway at around 65 and hitting a bump in the road. The Jeep started shaking so bad that we almost crashed. I replaced the shocks and the problem was fixed.

With regards to Zach's comments on too high of expectations. I don't think that you understand the extent of the shaking that everyone is referencing. It bounces up and down so bad that you literally can't continue driving. This is my second Jeep so I know what to expect - yes it isn't going to drive like a car or nice SUV but this shaking isn't just a little bit of shaking. It jumps up and down uncontrollably. But good news!! Mine was taken care of by a TSB.
I am in the process of choosing a new vehicle and had gone off the cliff when I saw that jeep finally made a 4 door. Have been looking around and decided that I had liked the 2008 4 door Unlimited SAHARA or RUBICON. After carefully looking over your posts i was given a side of the story that i hadn't heard before and wished to get yall's opinion on the new 08's. I realize that the first year production is allways gonna have problems, but didn't know if they were also going unresolved in the new 2008 line. This will be my first jeep and i am verry excited at owning one. I just don't wanna *%&@ myself by buying a vehicle that it's own company is afraid of the lemmon law with this perticular model. I have a 2007 4 Door Jeep Sahara with a leaky hardtop. It did not start leaking until about 3 months ago (purchased in June of '07). I took it to the dealership. They said they have had alot of problems with leaking and changed the seal. Now it leaks 10 times worse and there is alot of wind noise that was not there before. They also said that Jeep has had to change vendors several times because of the problems with the hardtop and they have also changed the vendor for the seals for the same reason. Still not fixed, but I will stay on them until it is. Has anyone else had problems with leaky hardtops?

I Love my 04 Rubicon but I think I made a mistake with this Jeep
Love my 2007 Jeep Rubicon 4-door; except the loud warning beeps. I got rid of the beep about the seat belt, but can't figure out how to get rid of the other beeps caused by: key in ignition with door open and start-up beeps. Trying to fugure out where it comes from and disconnect it, or some way to reprogram it. btw, dealer was not helpful.

7000 km the block heater blows out of the block on the highway towed to dealer part was 7 days away got it back and they said everything was find no internal problems take it home that night next day go out and start it up and i hear a ticking noise took it back to the dealer where i baught it and they say theres deff something wrong but they cant do anything with it right now and to keep driveing it until it gets worse
2 months go by take it to the dealer to get the oil changed 2 days later i check the oil its down a liter
take it back to them to get it toped up
3 more days pass its down an other 2 liters
now im looking for smoke in the mornings when i start it sure enough its burning oil
take it to the nearest dealer to me as it was baught about 85 miles away at a diffrent dealership
leave it there over night and the next day the service manager tells me its all in my head and its not burning oil
so next day i get out the video camera and video tape it take it back story changes now so they put it on an oil consumption program
needles to say about 4 weeks later is was rebuilt now short block put in it pistons crank and so on
2 months go by and one day when i back up i hear a snaping noise when you drive forward same thing
so off to the dealership again they take it in cant find anything wrong
take it to another dealership and they replace the driveshaft and my noise is gone
well its now sunday april 20 and last week i was at work took my pressure washer up to clean the fron of the store up and backed the jeep into a parking spot no problems everything was fine
was all dont put the pressure washer in the jeep get in the jeep and go to push the clutch in and no clutch so i drive it home with no clutch crawl under it and come to the conclution that the slave cyclinder is gone
off to the dealer again same one that replaced the driveshaft as they treated me better and didnt tell me it was all in my head
sure enough the slave cyclinder is gone
part again is a week away
jeep is now fixed and works fine again as i said i got it back on friday today is sunday
go for a drive today and im on an older highway and between 75 and 80 km and hour we hit a few bumps in the road and the sterring wheel starts to shake back and forth like the whole front end is ready to fall off so i think its just the road and keep goin and it happens again and it happens again after that so i have no clue whats wrong now i got home and checked everything seems tight will see tomorow i guess when its back to the dealership again
