Last November, a group of Jeep engineers from Daimler-Chrysler visited the Park with a herd of new black camo-clad Wranglers. We would have told you sooner, but then... well, you know. Arkansas Crawler's President Billy Mountjoy, along with Superlift Suspension personnel, helped guide the seven or so Wranglers during 5-days of brutal real world testing, complete with rock rash. All involved were genuinely impressed with the new JK's performance. It looks like the Park will be a regular stop for Jeep Engineering. The JK will hit the market some time this Fall.

I'm very happy with the look of the new Wrangler - I was worried Jeep would do something retarded and make it look ass-backwards or something. Here's to an '08 in my future!

My main isssue is more with the change in the Engine. Going to a V6 instead of a straight six is a concern. Currently I own two TJs with straight six engines. Both are over 100K in miles and run fine. I am concerned that the v6 engine is not as good. What are your thoughts?

I HAVE PURCHASED A 2007 WRANGLER. I ONLY HAVE ONE PROBLEM WITH IT. WHEN IT'S READY TO SHIFT INTO OVER-DRIVE, IT HAS A BAD VIBERATION. IT WILL CONTINUE TO VIBERATE AS LONG AS YOU HOLD IT AT A CERTAIN SPEED (30-40). I HAVE HAD IT IN THE SHOP THREE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND EACH TIME I'M TOLD THAT IT DOESN'T "REACT" ENOUGH TO GIVE THEM A CLUE AS TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. BASICLY, WHAT THEY TOLD ME WAS TO DRIVE IT AND IT WOULD EVENTUALLY BREAK. THEN WE COULD GO FROM THERE. MY JEEP ONLY HAS 3,700 MILES ON IT. I WAS JUST WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE THAT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM.

I have a 2007 unlimited 4 door. Since the second day of owning this beauty, the automatic acceleration control warning light has been going on (a red lightning bolt).

I have now owned the Jeep for about one month. It has been in the shop 3 out of 4 weeks and it still is not running correctly.

Frequently the RPM's will drop on the freeway (to zero)..I have to restart it while driving along the freeway to get going again. Also, the rpm's skyrocket frequently while in neutral.

Walser Jeep in Hopkins MN has given me unwashed dodge stratus and a neon to drive while they try to fix the problem. Major pain getting any answers from them (i have to call them, they usually do NOT call back). Very frustrated! It is like being in a horrible relationship.

I have a 2007 unlimited 4-door 6 speed manual. About the 2,000 mile mark, the throw out bearing had to be replaced. Now it has 5,400 miles on it and I just had to get to towed to the Jeep dealer because it wouldn't start. Jeep stated the integrated control module was bad and had to be replaced. Apparently this isn't the first 4 door Wrangler they had to replace a integrated control module on. I love the new Wrangler but when will it stop giving me problems?

Wrangler 2007 X

Purchased our X in February and it has been in the shop 3x and 15 days and counting for the same problem - electronic Throttle control. (lightning bolt). They are bewildered as what is causing it. I am starting a Lemon Law Claim. It seems like the only way out. I would sell it if I could. It only has 1100 miles on it!!!

The stories about the Throttle Control are starting to sound all too familiar. I had my jeep a total of 2 1/2 weeks when the infamous lightening bolt started to flash. I took it in last week and a week later I am still drving a chevy HHR. I too am getting little explination as to why I am on a national backorder list for the part to fix this problem. This is ridiculous, this is obviously a larger problem and you would think a company who has been around for 60 plus years would have their act together. I love the wrangler, but if what everyone else is saying about weeks long repairs, I may need to consider another vehicle!

I posted earlier about the Throttle control problem. The car ended up being in the shop for 27 days. In the three separate times it was in the shop (and keep in mind I only had the car for 2 months and had 1150 miles on it!) They replaced the harness, the throttle control assembly and the PCM during that time. The service manager called to say it was "fixed but he wanted to keep it over the weekend and drive for about 100 miles to do further diagnostics." I declined, picked up the car and traded it in the next morning for a Toyota. I had purchased heavy duty floor mats and decided to keep them before I got rid of it and found the floor to be completely soaked! Guess the roof leaked as well. Chyrsler's customer service is worthless so I recommend you research your state's lemon laws. Three more days and I would have had an automatic case but I did not want to wait for another breakdown. And I never want another Chrysler product again.

You guys seem way to bitter about the throttle problem. The fact is its a new drive train and it will be in the shop a few times. Dodge had the same problem with their ETC's when they went to the new system in 04. It will eventually work out. The fact is that its a new model and it will take time to work out the bugs. Most five star dealers will bend over backwards for you to keep their rating. Tell then you want a new ETC now and if they don't you will file a complaint with Chrysler. If it bothers you that much go invest in something else. As for the leaking roof I found on my new Rubicon that if you don't screw in those funny round pucks into the sound bar you dont create a tight enough seal for the t-top to keep out the water. At least thats been my problem. Other than that I've enjoyed my JK to no end! I've been a Jeep owner for 14 years and I wouldn't trade it for the world. I even bought my wife a Jeep Liberty for Christmas last year and its been in the shop every now and again too, but no more than any other vehicle out on the road.

There has been a Tech Service Bulletin on the PCM related to the Electronic Throttle Control. Bitter? Yes. It is unacceptable for a brand new vehicle to be in the shop for 27 days in the first two months of ownership. The top had never been removed and it still leaked, the car will be recalled and it is a lemon. Have fun at the bus stop while yours is being repaired again and again.

The fact is if you're looking for something indestructable in a new model year you will never find one. It takes any manufacturer at least 1 year or more to work out the bugs, it doesnt matter if its Ford, Chevy, Dodge ect... As far as Jeep as a brand name, I have owned 4 Jeeps old and new and I have never found a manufacturer more customer oriented or a vehicle more reliable that a Jeep. Perhaps the dealership you take yours to is a poor one. Try a different dealer or if it bothers you that much buy a Hummer. But one thing is certain, you will never find a true Jeep owner willing to part with his Jeep except for another Jeep.

I have had many new cars in the first year of production including a Chevy Trailblazer and currently have the new Mustang GT produced in the first year (new generatrion) and guess what? No problems. Jeep is only still in business because of people like you who put up with a inferior product and stand by it. Jeep (and specifically Chrysler) are on the verge of oblivion becaues people who know better expect a better product and deserve it, don't stand for crap. The dealer stunk but the bigger issue I had was with Chrsler customer service who did nothing. Wake up. What is a "true" jeep owner... a sucker.

Your only a sucker if you don't know what your getting into. That is with any product, but I have owned only a handful of cars that have been good the first time around. But I also know that in 25 years I will still be driving this Jeep and it will still be the best brand out there on the road and still be the most reliable thing on the market. As for customer service, well if you call them with a chip on your shoulder in the first place you probably wont get far. When I have had a problem with a dealership, and I have had a few dealers who have sucked ass, Chrysler has always fixed the problem and usually in the same week.

I only had my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon for two weeks when the lightning bolt signal came on. They had to replace the Throttle Pedal and the powertrain control module. A month after it was fixed the lightning bolt signal came on again and the engine would shut off. This time they could not figure out what was wrong with it. It has been in the shop a total of 26 days and I have only had it for 4 months. I am pursuing the lemon law. Oh, and they would not cover my rental. Frustrating!

Has anyone had a problem with the soft top tearing where it folds back? I fold the top back almost everyday for my drive home from work. Then I close it for the evening. I noticed two inch tears on both sides of the soft top at the seams where it folds back.
Anyone heard anything about this before?

I too am having the same issues with the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) system. I had purchased my Jeep on April 14, 2007 and my Jeep has been in the the shop 3 weeks out of the 8 that I have owned it. My dealership has replaced the throttle control assembly and the PCM thus far. The latest issue occurred when the lightening bolt started flashing on my commute to work yesterday, luckily I managed to get off the road before the Jeeped stalled all together. I had to get towed back to my dealership, and once assessed they determined that the issue may be the wire harness. The error codes were all over the place, same error codes as before and same problems. The last thing to try is to replace the harness so I have to wait another week before it comes in. My dealership has been great and very helpful however it's disconcerting to see that they no longer carry my Jeep in there fleet of inventory. I wonder why it takes so long for the manufacturer to fix the issue or even admit that there is a real problem that needs to be addressed. I read an article today that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating the DaimlerChrysler 2007 Jeep Wrangler, following at least 53 reports of the engine stalling at highway speeds. Maybe this can help expedite a resolution to this problem. I love my Jeep and want to be hopeful, but if this last attempt does not work I have no other alternative but to start an Arbitration Claim (Canadian version of Lemon Laws).

My soft top has the tears described above. I started noticing them after about 1500 miles. But my service department has immediately ordered me a new top. No problem. If I continue to have problems with the soft top, I will continue to get a new top. While I was at my service department, they did a service check and changed my oil as it was almost 3000 miles. My service department has been fantastic to me every time I have been there.

2007 Wrangler Unlimited

Just got news from my dealer, a recall will be issued for Jeep & Nitro ETC System. Letters should be going out within 4-6 weeks! I think I got all my parts replaced already but it is great news that they are finally acknowledging that there is a problem and that they are going to fix it.

I’ve had my 2007 Jeep Wrangler for about 4 months now and my Electronic Throttle Control (lightning bolts) light keeps coming on and has done so since the first day I drove it off the lot. I’ve had it in the shop one time for it. They did a software update but that didn’t fix the problem. After reading all of these posts, I’m getting very concerned about this issue. I just got off the phone with my dealer again and they don’t have anything on their radar for this problem. They also can’t make a complaint or file an issue with Chrysler. How does Chrysler know there is a problem if the service departments can’t report it? Is there a way I can file a complaint with Chrysler.

Hi Will, you can contact the Chrysler customer service and file a formal complaint with regards to your dealership lack of support or knowledge, they will contact your dealership to review your complaint. At least that's how it worked for me when I contacted Chrysler, to complain about my many ETC problems.

However the recall has been annouced on July 3rd (see below), so you will be receiving a letter and your dealership should be aware of this in advance.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Chrysler said Tuesday it is recalling more than 80,000 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro sport utility vehicles in the United States to correct a problem that could make their engines stall.

Chrysler Group, a unit of DaimlerChrysler AG, said the recall would allow dealers to reprogram a power module to remove the potential for a brief interruption of electrical power to the instrument panel and the engine.

The automaker said the power interruption could lead to a short engine stall, but the engine would immediately restart if the vehicle was in motion.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation into the Wrangler in May after receiving reports of engine stalling. Chrysler said the agency has received about 180 complaints of engine stalling in Wrangler and Nitro vehicles.

There has been one accident linked to the issue, the company said, but no injuries have been reported. Chrysler will notify owners about the recall later this week and the work will be completed at no cost to consumers.

Well.......I have owned this Jeep since Sept. 2006 and since have had electrical failure 2 times, both of which the dealership could not find a problem. NOW the DEATH WOBBLE, Violent shaking of the front end!! This goes to the dealership on July9th upon opening. Jeep is stock and has not been off-road. Not a big fan.

Bought a Jeep JK in Feb '07

Week 1:
Problem--had to have the Jeep towed back to the dealership because I have an antifreeze leak
Cause—cheap tension hose clamps used on this model
Solution—replaced with “worm” style hose clamp

Week 8:
Problem—right side fender flare started flopping in the wind
Cause---fender mounted with cheap plastic hardware
Solution--- replaced with metal hardware

Week 10:
Problem—Sirius radio stopped working
Cause--?
Solution—replace receiver

Week 2-Month 4:
Constant and unresolved problem—tightening bolt popped through freedom top on 2 occasions
Cause—bolts too long when using freedom top only, a gap is left when the rear top is removed and only the freedom tops are used; went to dealer and looked at tightening bolts on a JK that just arrived at dealer and noticed the bolts are shorter; apparently Jeep corrected the problem on new JKs but what about those already out there
Solution--MY PROBLEM STILL NOT CORRECTED

Constant and unresolved problem—Freedom tops vibrate and bounce around when rear top is removed and only freedom top used

Constant and unresolved problem—After original freedom tops were replaced (because of tightening bolts popping through) the current tops do not fit properly and I have tremendous wind noise and rain getting in gap between tops
Solution—STILL A DAILY PROBLEM, DEALER SAYS TOPS HAVE BEEN ON BACKORDER FOR OVER 2 MONTHS

Week 7:
Constant and unresolved problem—passenger side door will not close securely and has to be slammed shut with force
Cause—according to dealer, the rubber weatherstripping is inadequate so they replaced it
Solution—STILL A DAILY PROBLEM

i was looking for other people with problems on the electronic throttle control box and i seem to have found more reviews on it then i bargained for. I have found that when driving in heavy rain or splashing through puddles at +20mph is what is causing my lightning bolt problems and i am on my to the shop for the 3rd time tomorrow. I have owned this jeep for 3 months and invested 15k in aftermarket modifications blindly excited by the new 4 door option. Aside from living in a tropical climate i had planned on competing in off road competitions that involve driving through water at high speeds. I must find a solution to this problem. I should mention that i have an airaid intake and throttle body spacer. I think i will try to somehow block the splashing water from underneath the engine and increase the air flow through a vented hood instead. unfortunately I think in heavy rain i will still have the problem. any suggestions? comments? thanks for reading

Electronic Throttle Control Light Solution - I had the same issue as many posts above. My ETC light came on and occassionally it would stall out. The recall did nothing for me, only made the matter worse. I took it back in 2 weeks ago and they fixed it for good! They tested the computer (found nothing). So they disconnected the wiring harness and checked it all out. They checked the sensors and cleaned em. They reconnected the wiring harness the appropriate method (using some sort of connecting grease or such). End result, no more problems at all! My Jeep even runs a little stronger then before with much quicker response. I am thinking that maybe the wiring harnesses need to be connected better with connection grease. If this solved the problem for mine, I am sure you will have similar success. Happy Jeeping!

Thanks for the warning! My father, who was a old-school car guy, always said "Never buy the first model year, there are bound to be bugs. wait until the second or third model year and give them time to get it tweaked". I have owned 2 YJ's and a 2 TJ's and I loved them all. Owning a jeep is like being married to a good mountain woman. It can be a little mean and bitchy but if you take care of it, give it love and respect, and treat it right, you can depend on it having your back when you need it most. I'm betting the 08's will be the one to buy. As soon as the positive feedback on them is out, I'm going to add an Unlimited Rubicon to my harem. After all, it is a Jeep.

I PURCHASED A 07 WRANGLER X ABOUT 6 MO AGO. IT HAS A AUTOTRANS. AND I HAD A MOPAR CRUISE CONTROL ADDED. MY PROBLEM IS THAT WHEN I ENCOUNTER A HILL, BIG OR SMALL, IT LOOSES SPEED, ALOT OF SPEED. THE GUYS AT THE DEALERSHIP TELL ME ITS BECAUSE ITS ELECTRONICALY ACTIVATED. IVE TAKEN IT IN 3 TIMES AND ITS THE SAME ANSWER. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THIS IS CORRECT? I ALSO DRIVE ABOUT 150 MILES ONCE A MONTH TO VISIT MY PARENTS AND IT CONSUMES 3/4 OF A TANK. PLEASE ADVISE.

I too have been to the dealer many times in an attempt to help them resolve this problem. Have been very patient too...they have replaced three wiring harnesses...one tech was sure he found a problem with the newest wire harnesses and made a patch around one...just last week was the fifth try they've had, I'm sure their frustrated at seeing me to because they had to deal with leaks, loose paint, recalls, interior lamp issues and this lighting bolt is haunting the new jeep...according to my lawyer, I gotta keep going back as they really have no clue as to what is going on.

I am waiting on the final fix so my lemon can be replaced as I'll settel for nothing short of a new one with out this issue...just wish they would hurry up and fix as I love this new model.

I bought my 2007 Wrangler 2Door in late July

In the last 25 days, I have taken it to the dealer 4 times. As I write, its in for the same service.

Has anyone had any resolution to their ETC problems?

My "Lightning bolt" comes on, and the car wont downshift from its current gear.

They've replaced the ETC on the first repair.
They reflashed the PCM on the 2nd repair.
They replaced the PCM on the 3rd repair.

It is now in for service again.. any suggestions?

A Michigan Lemon Law Lawyer told me I couldn't call it a lemon because I bought it with an employee discount. Has anyone actually gotten anywhere with a lemon case? or better yet, a true repair??

Just got my Jeep back from its third time in the shop to fix the throttle control light. About 10mins after leaving the dealship it came back on. What surprises me is that everytime I mention it comes on, they seem puzzled...like it doesn't happen to anyone else.

Not sure what else to do. Don't have time to keep bringing it back every other week.

Bought my 2007 Wrangler X in July.
Shop seven times...
Total of 47 days....
Sent email to Jeep about problem asking to contact me to rectify the situation. If not, we start Lemon Law process. I have wanted a Jeep for a long, long time. I understand there are problems and hjust want another Jeep. Problem is there is a whistling noise from accelerator. Loud. They are obviously clueless as to what it is...also the ESP. What a joke. When I bought it they told I could lift it etc...so we just put bigger tires on it..and wow..bout killed us. Brakes would slam on etc...I would have bought the Sahara instead if they would have told me. Oh wait, they had no idea they said. Way to know your product. I am calling the attorney general tomorrow.

just bought a brand new(2 miles) 08 jk x model 2dr. as soon as i drove it home and parked it, antifreeze began to pour out from under it. Returned it to the dealer last friday and was told it was a faulty heater hose. They kept my jeep and ordered the part. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

i bought my JK 6 month ago , and ive experienced so many kinds of un expected problems from this junck JK . Before having the first service after doing 500 miles the water pump start leaking which obviously resulted an over heated engine , plus the clutch pearing was causing an annoying sound. So i took it to the workshop and ive been told its a normal thing and ive collected the car by the next day . PLUS this JK is soooooooo chocked performance is it my car only or u guys r experincing the same un satisfactory performance for the record its a manual trans and for reaching the speed of 30 miles it takes me all the way shifting between gears till the third !!!!!!!!! ............WHAT A CHEAP JK

Since I got my '07 JK I've enjoyed 6,000+ completely trouble free miles. I was very impressed with the integrity of my Toledo Mud Box until today when after work I'm getting on the highway and Bam! out of nowhere the thing suddenly drops anchor. This while entering an on-ramp heading into rush hour traffic! Hmmm? There's now a red Flash Gordon lightning icon glowing on the dash. WTF? The engine didn't die but throttle response was slow, choppy, and unpredictable. Top speed maxed out at a very-slow-to-achieve 60MPH. I had a concrete barrier to my left, a semi truck to my right, and a Subaru WRX up my tailpipe. Obviously this is the dark side of, It's a Jeep Thing! And, yes, I don't understand. I thought about turning off the engine, throwing it into neutral and restarting, but I was driving through a rough neighborhood and was concerned about becoming fodder for the indigenous population. Thus it seems lame ignition is better than no ignition at all. That, and it was 21 degrees Fahrenheit outside and I'm allergic to freezing to death. So, after white-knuckling it back home to my cushy suburb I shut it off and restarted. Lo and behold, as if touched by Bill Gates himself, everything worked fine after the reboot. Good thing, but certainly not very confidence inspiring. Welcome to the 21st century where everything electronic-ed to the point of ludicrousness. I called the dealer. Mr. Serviceman seemed nonplussed and muttered something sleepily about error codes. Perhaps if I'd asked him if he could remove a Subaru from my tailpipe it would've awakened him from his "I've had a busy day huffing starting fluid" state of mind? Anyway, today the thing ran like a champ, getting me to and fro without incident. Strangely it seems to have better throttle response than I remember. Not that it had much to start with. Or maybe its just my imagination? Or maybe, it's simply a Jeep Thing.

I have owned many jeeps over the years, my husband bought me a 2007 Wrangler 4 door Unlimited beginning of 2007. I sold my 98 jeep which I could kick myself for, it was awesome. My 2007 has been the biggest and SCARIEST, nightmare I have ever been involved with. It has been in the shop numerous times, minor issues I don't have a problem with, but the lightning bolt on the dash, loosing all power is horrifying. The dealer has done the update on it and it is still doing it. I just about got killed, by pulling out in an intersection and having no power. My husband again took it in the shop, it threw no codes, the dealership said they couldn't get it to repeat the loss of power issue. My husband asked them could you guarantee that it is not going to stall again, they said no. He was furious, we took it home, it has stalled for me twice and and him once in 2 days of being out of the shop. It is parked, I get my new vehicle on Wednesday, and it is not a Jeep. Chrysler better look into to this issue before someone gets killed. This is really a very serious matter. Not counting the money we have lost!!

We purchased our 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4door in November 2006. We have had it into the shop 8 times for a leak that started as a wet seat belt after a rain and now is a frozen puddle in the back seat of the car, and, bonus it rains on the passengers INSIDE, with the top on! The top has never been off the vehicle. The treatment we have recieved from Jeep, Chrystler, and the dealershp has been a joke and we now have had to retain an attorney because Chrystler and it's powers try to convince the owner to trade the car in rather then lemon law it. This has been the worst experience we have ever had with any vehicle. The car is no longer safe, it smells, and it is making people sick. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone, soft top or hard top! JEEP should be ashamed of both the product they have put out and the way they treat their customers.

I bought the 2007 JK 4 door in March of 2007.
I have not experienced any of the now legendary roof leaks, but as I type this, my Jeep sits in a bay at the dealership for the third time for a TPS light.

The first two incidents involved a loss of throttle response which left me in limp home mode until I would stop and restart the motor.

Today they are replacing the PCM. Hopefully this will be the last I will ever see the lightning-bolt-of-death light.

If not, I'm selling it and buying a pre-2007 Rubicon. I love Jeeps, and if it weren't for a TPS problem that keeps recurring every 4 months or so, I'd love this one, too.
